BER Applications

The BER Error Detector application displays the bit error rate-related information measured on the Calibration input of the Pattern Generator. This input supports measuring bit errors at sub-rate of the true Pattern Generator rate. This sub-rate divider value must be set before perform BER measurements.  Setting the Calibration input's sub-rate divider is located in the Data Rate Status item.

The Pattern Generator performs three types of real-time BER-related applications that measure BER and present the results based on the Calibration Input.

1.)  The BER Error Detector Application displays basic BER statistics.

2.) The BER Strip Chart Application BER Strip Chart Application measures BER and displays a strip chart of the result.

3.) The BER Tub Application measures BER as the sample point is automatically moved from one side of the eye opening to the other.  Each side of the tub-looking measurements are then extrapolated to accomplish jitter measurements such as Eye-width, Random Jitter, and Deterministic Jitter.
